CNNvoter focus group liked Romney saying he didn't want to use U.S. forces in Syria. #CNNUndecided #CNNDebate
Question to Obama about whether he regrets saying former Egyptian President Mubarak "had to go"
Got a horrible feeling Britain's not even going to get mentioned tonight. #NotSoSpecialRelationship #PMTdebate
This debate is flying by...already almost 1/3 of the way done.
Obama mentions Romney in almost every response. Romney hardly mentioning Obama. #debate #CNNdebate
SPEAKING TIME UPDATE:
Romney on whether he disagreed w WH support for Mubarak's departure from Egypt: No. I supported (president's) action there.
so far a slight edge for O on points, but Rom passing Commander in Chief test. looks smart, reasonable, presidential. bad for O #cnndebate
Romney turns to the economy.
Mitt Romney making the pivot: Our purpose is to make the world more peaceful. "For us to be able to promote those principles of peace requires us to be strong. And that requires for us to have a strong economy at home."
Romney making the pivot to the economy by pointing to looming defense cuts.
Pivots are the new zingers. #CNNDebate
Romney: In nowhere in the world is America's influence greater than what it was four years ago. #CNNDebate
Next question: What is America's role in the world?
America's role in the world was the #1 question you wanted to hear answered in the pre-debate poll here in the live blog.
Does Romney have a cold too? It seems that both these candidates may have a slight cold. Busy schedules.
Thoughts on debate so far? @cnn
Romney actually very smart bringing this all back to economy. Will resonate better with insular American voters. #PMTdebate
MT @DylanByers Schieffer has these guys at exact equal time (four-second difference after 2 segments) Yup. #CNNDebateClock
So far this debate hasn't contained many specifics on foreign policy plans. Perhaps that's due to more open ended questions like "What is America's role in the world"
Someone told O to always look at Romn. It's almost uncomfortable how he's staring. It's ok to (sometimes) look away.
Campaign email blasts fill reporters email boxes, and here are the subject lines of two which landed nearly simultaneously minutes ago:
- "THE OBAMA RECORD: LEADING FROM BEHIND IN SYRIA" (from Romney campaign)
- "FACT CHECK: Mitt Romney Would Take Us Back" (from Obama campaign)
Romney 1st to mention economy as national security/foreign policy issue. #debate #CNNdebate
"We have to stand for our principles," says Romney. Obama counters that America has "never been stronger."
Obama turns to economy: We have to make sure we reduce our deficit. Unfortunately Governor Romney doesn't do that.
President Obama brings it back to economy now. Women are responding well but not so much men.
