Here's more on the notion of debt as a national security concern. CNNMoney's Jeanne Sahadi spoke with deficit hawks and former military leaders who say the U.S. economy is directly linked to our foreign policy, begging the question: should the debates be divided as they are into domestic and foreign policy?

Why debt is a threat to national security
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The national debt is not on the official agenda for Monday's presidential debate on foreign policy.

But it may as well as be. A chorus of former military leaders, current administration officials and fiscal hawks have all labeled the country's debt a threat to national security.
