obama 4/3/09 abroad: "there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive." #cnndebate #Oapology

Obama, responding to the "apology tour" charge, makes the turn to slam Romney for his maligned foreign trip this summer. He says he didn't bring donors to Israel when he visited as a candidate (Romney held a high dollar breakfast fundraiser when he was there in July)
Responding to Romney's "apology tour" comments, Obama contrasted his trip abroad as a candidate in 2008 to Romney's earlier this year and touted US funding of Israel's Iron Dome program. In May, the United States said it will provide an additional $70 million to support the Israeli short-range missile defense system.
Obama: I'm pleased that you're now endorsing our policy of applying diplomatic pressure. #CNNDebate

read more about Romney's Israel fundraiser here:
Palestinians protest Romney statements as 'racist' (CNN) - A Palestinian leader blasted Mitt Romney's statements at a high-dollar fund-raiser in Jerusalem as "racist" Monday after Romney made a comparison between the per capita GDPs of Israel and Palestinian-controlled areas.
@mittromney: "When I‘m president of the United States we will stand with Israel. If Israel is attacked, then we will have their back"

Debate turns to Afghanistan -- and Pakistan. Obama and Romney both want to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014. But what about Pakistan? It's a nuclear armed nation with a government that's considered corrupt, and a record of harboring enemies to the U.S.
Obama tells Romney, problem is on a whole range of issues, you’ve been all over the map. t.co #CNNdebate

It's my understanding we will get to China, as the final question of the night. We have 20 minutes or so to go.

Expect this bit of the debate, on military spending, to spark attacks from Republicans. Obama equated Romney's pledge for more Navy ships to a request for more "horses and bayonets." That may sound good to deficit hawks, but it won't sound good to people who make their living building those ships (many of whom live in the battleground state of Virginia)
