As of today, the presidential oath will have been given 73 times to 43 different individuals (This includes both the private and public swearing-in ceremonies in 2013). Today's event will be the eighth inauguration ceremony held on the West Front of the Capitol.

The National Mall viewing area, which stretches from 4th to 12th Streets is full, according to the U.S. Park Police. They said in a mass text message that there is space around the Washington Monument, which has a direct line of sight to the Capitol.

Lea Morast and Danielle Clayton got to Lafayette Square at 6 a.m., to snag good spots on the bleachers to watch the parade, although it wasn’t scheduled to start for eight more hours. That was nothing, compared to driving 12 hours all the way from Detroit to Washington D.C. on Saturday.

They said they were pleasantly surprised that this Inauguration Day turned into a relatively warmer day, at least compared to the last inauguration (as well as Detroit). Morast had been to the 2008 Inauguration, but this is Clayton’s first trip to Washington.

“I think it was important to come to be a part of history,” said Morast, who brought her 13-year-old son Shane with her. “This is a very special day."

Rahman Henderson, 36, and Davina Henderson, 37, from Chicago, had seats in the bleachers to watch the Inauguration parade in Lafayette Park, near the White House. Rahman Henderson worked on Obama's re-election campaign, and he said he was really surprised when Obama won. Henderson had his doubts. So this inauguration, in particular, was one he didn't want to miss.

"Honestly, this day is meaningful, because I think this is the last time we might see a Black president in a long time," Rahman Henderson said. "And,it's on the day we observe Martin Luther King's holiday. Last time was historic. But this just seems better."
